Weeve expands its local-first AI note taker with agents that turn conversations into work

Building on its on-device AI note taker, the Amsterdam startup previews agents that help people act on their conversations. Users choose local processing or optional cloud AI, with sensitive details replaced on their device before sharing.
AMSTERDAM, 23.09.2025 — Weeve is showcasing its next generation of privacy-first AI at HumanX in Amsterdam: local-first agents that turn conversations into useful work while giving people control over how their data is used. The new chat interface combines on-device assistance with optional ChatGPT processing and local anonymisation controls.
Co-founder and CEO Stefan Weiss is also pitching in the semifinals of HumanX’s startup competition, alongside AI startups from the Netherlands and across Europe.
Weeve launched its on-device AI note taker in June with a straightforward promise: no cloud processing of conversations and no bot joining the meeting. Transcription and summarisation run on the user’s Mac, keeping the conversation on the device.
The new capabilities build on that foundation. Users can ask questions about previous meetings, prepare a client email or draft a Slack update using the context already captured in their recordings. Answers connect back to source recordings, making it easier to check what was actually discussed.
Local AI remains the default. For tasks involving more material than a local model can comfortably handle, users can choose to connect their own ChatGPT account.
With cloud protection enabled, Weeve replaces detected names and other selected sensitive details with consistent reference IDs before text leaves the device. The cloud model works with that protected text, using the IDs to follow connections across conversations. When its response returns, Weeve restores the corresponding details locally. The original recordings and the lookup connecting IDs to private information stay on the Mac.
This automates a process people already perform manually: removing sensitive information before using another AI tool. Users decide whether to use cloud processing and which categories of information to protect. Because the replacements can be reversed locally, the process is technically pseudonymisation. Detection has limits, and the resulting text remains subject to the selected provider’s data policies.

You can work locally or choose cloud AI for a larger task, with sensitive details protected on your device. That choice should belong to you.”
The preview is a step towards local agents that retrieve relevant context and prepare work for users to review. Weeve’s longer-term direction is to connect these capabilities with the tools and systems of record companies already use, applying local protection before information is passed to cloud AI.
Weeve is showcasing this direction at HumanX. Beta availability will be announced following testing.
