Convert FLAC audio to a transcript

FLAC compresses audio without discarding decoded sound data. It is useful for interviews, archives, and production masters when you want a smaller source than uncompressed WAV without lossy encoding.

Compatibility at a glance

Weeve accepts .flac files and audio/flac or audio/x-flac MIME types. The current browser still needs native FLAC decoding support.

  • .flac
  • audio/flac
  • audio/x-flac

How it works

Four clear steps from local file to reviewed text.

  1. 01

    Choose the FLAC

Select a lossless recording no longer than 60 minutes.

  2. 02

    Decode in the browser

The compressed stream is expanded locally and prepared for speech recognition.

  3. 03

    Create timed speech

The model adds words, punctuation, capitalization, and timestamps.

  4. 04

    Add and edit speakers

Review diarization, rename labels, and export the finished transcript.

Product details

Practical details for flac transcription.

Lossless compression for speech archives

FLAC reduces storage without the permanent frequency loss of MP3. It is common in audio archives, field recordings, and production workflows.

The transcription model receives decoded audio rather than the compressed bytes. The benefit is preserving the quality that was present in the source.

Browser decoding still applies

Weeve does not ship a separate FLAC decoder. It relies on browser audio APIs, so support can differ between browser versions and operating systems.

If decoding fails, try a recent supported browser or convert a copy to PCM WAV. Keep the original FLAC as your archival source.

Quality and speaker separation

Lossless storage helps preserve voices, but microphone placement and overlap still influence results. Speaker separation uses acoustic differences and does not know anyone’s identity.

You can set a manual count from 1 to 8 if automatic separation finds the wrong number of speakers.

Your recording stays here

Recording bytes, decoded audio, transcript text, and speaker names stay on this page. Speech models download from Weeve’s CDN.

A transcript you can review

Timestamps and speaker labels stay editable before export.

Great. I renamed your speaker label, so the exported notes will use your name.
