Convert MP4 video to a transcript
Select an MP4 video and Weeve reads its audio track locally. The video is not uploaded or analyzed. The browser must be able to decode the audio codec stored inside the MP4 container.

Compatibility at a glance
Weeve accepts .mp4 files and audio/mp4 or video/mp4 MIME types. Common AAC audio tracks often work, but MP4 can contain other codecs that a particular browser cannot decode.
- .mp4
- video/mp4

How it works
Four clear steps from local file to reviewed text.
- 01
Choose the MP4
Select a video with no more than 60 minutes of audio.
- 02
Decode its audio track
The browser reads the container and extracts decodable audio in memory.
- 03
Transcribe speech
Local workers create the timed transcript and attempt speaker separation.
- 04
Review and export
Rename speakers and export the words without creating a new media file.
Product details
Practical details for mp4 transcription.
MP4 is a video container
An MP4 can hold video, audio, captions, and metadata. Weeve only needs the audio track for transcription. It does not inspect frames or generate descriptions of what appears on screen.
Compatibility depends on the audio codec, not only the .mp4 extension. Two MP4 files from different systems can behave differently in the same browser.
Useful MP4 sources
MP4 is common for exported presentations, webinars, screen recordings, camera footage, and meeting recordings. Export the recording from its source system first, then choose the local file in Weeve.
There is no direct Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams connection. Weeve does not join calls or fetch recordings from those services.
When an MP4 will not decode
Try a current Chrome, Edge, or Safari release. If the audio codec remains unsupported, export or convert a copy with a broadly supported AAC audio track, or extract the audio as MP3 or WAV.
Video files can be large even when their audio is short. Reading the entire file uses browser memory, so a smaller export can help on memory-constrained devices.
Your recording stays here
Recording bytes, decoded audio, transcript text, and speaker names stay on this page. Speech models download from Weeve’s CDN.
A transcript you can review
Timestamps and speaker labels stay editable before export.

Great. I renamed your speaker label, so the exported notes will use your name.
