Supported transcription formats
Weeve accepts common audio files and video containers up to 60 minutes. Your browser decodes the file locally, so actual compatibility depends on the audio codec your browser can read.

Compatibility at a glance
Accepted extensions are .mp3, .mp4, .m4a, .wav, .flac, .ogg, .oga, and .webm. A recognized extension is not a guarantee that every codec variant inside the file can be decoded.

How it works
Four clear steps from local file to reviewed text.
- 01
Choose a file
Select one supported audio or video file from your device.
- 02
Decode locally
The browser reads the audio track and converts it to 16 kHz mono audio on this page.
- 03
Transcribe and label
Speech recognition and speaker separation run in browser workers after the models load.
- 04
Review and export
Rename speakers, correct the speaker count, then export Markdown, text, or PDF.

Containers and codecs are different
A file extension usually names a container. The container can hold audio encoded in several different ways. MP4, M4A, OGG, and WebM are common examples.
Weeve validates the file type first, then asks the browser to decode its audio track. A file can therefore have a supported extension but still fail if the browser does not support the codec inside it.
What happens to the file
The selected recording is read into browser memory, decoded, and resampled locally. It is not sent to Weeve for transcription.
Speech and speaker models download from models.getweeve.io on the first run and are cached by the browser when storage allows.
If a supported file will not open
Try the same file in a recent Chrome, Edge, or Safari release. If decoding still fails, convert a copy to MP3, WAV, or another codec your browser supports.
Large uncompressed recordings use more memory. Closing other tabs or choosing a shorter file can help with memory errors.
Guides for each format
Check container, codec, source, and troubleshooting details before you transcribe.
Convert MP3 to a transcript
Choose an MP3 from a recorder, podcast workflow, interview, or voice note. Weeve decodes it on this page, transcribes speech in one of 25 European languages, and adds speaker labels when diarization succeeds.
Convert MP4 video to a transcript
Select an MP4 video and Weeve reads its audio track locally. The video is not uploaded or analyzed. The browser must be able to decode the audio codec stored inside the MP4 container.
Convert M4A to a transcript
M4A is common for Apple Voice Memos and audio-only exports. Choose the file and Weeve decodes it locally before creating a transcript with punctuation, timestamps, and available speaker labels.
Convert WAV audio to a transcript
WAV often preserves uncompressed or lossless audio, which can retain clear speech detail. Choose a recording up to 60 minutes and Weeve will decode, resample, and transcribe it on this page.
Convert FLAC audio to a transcript
FLAC compresses audio without discarding decoded sound data. It is useful for interviews, archives, and production masters when you want a smaller source than uncompressed WAV without lossy encoding.
Convert OGG or OGA to a transcript
OGG and OGA files commonly contain Vorbis or Opus audio. Weeve accepts both extensions, then relies on your browser to decode the specific stream before local transcription begins.
Convert WebM audio or video to a transcript
WebM is common for browser recordings and web video. Weeve reads only the audio track, which often uses Opus or Vorbis, and creates a transcript locally when the browser can decode it.
Your recording stays here
Recording bytes, decoded audio, transcript text, and speaker names stay on this page. Speech models download from Weeve’s CDN.
A transcript you can review
Timestamps and speaker labels stay editable before export.

Maya
Great. I renamed your speaker label, so the exported notes will use your name.
