Convert WebM audio or video to a transcript

WebM is common for browser recordings and web video. Weeve reads only the audio track, which often uses Opus or Vorbis, and creates a transcript locally when the browser can decode it.

Compatibility at a glance

Weeve accepts .webm files and audio/webm or video/webm MIME types. The video codec is not used, but the browser must support the audio codec inside the container.

  • .webm
  • audio/webm
  • video/webm

How it works

Four clear steps from local file to reviewed text.

  1. 01

    Save the WebM

Export or download the browser recording to your device.

  2. 02

    Select the local file

The browser opens the container and prepares its audio track in memory.

  3. 03

    Run local transcription

Workers process speech and attempt to separate up to 8 speakers.

  4. 04

    Create a document

Review the result, then copy it or export Markdown, text, or PDF.

Product details

Practical details for webm transcription.

Built for web media

WebM is designed for web playback and is frequently produced by browser capture APIs, screen recorders, and web conferencing exports.

The file can contain both video and audio. Weeve ignores the images and processes only the decodable audio track.

Opus and Vorbis tracks

Opus is common for spoken audio because it performs well at modest bitrates. Vorbis also appears in WebM files. Browser support is generally broad but not identical everywhere.

Container validation cannot prove codec compatibility in advance. Decoding is the step that confirms whether the current browser can read the file.

Troubleshooting WebM

If a WebM has no audio track, there is nothing for Weeve to transcribe. If it has an unsupported track, export a new WebM with Opus audio or convert a copy to another supported format.

For meeting services, download the recording first. Weeve does not sign in to the platform or retrieve the file for you.

Your recording stays here

Recording bytes, decoded audio, transcript text, and speaker names stay on this page. Speech models download from Weeve’s CDN.

A transcript you can review

Timestamps and speaker labels stay editable before export.

Great. I renamed your speaker label, so the exported notes will use your name.
